  • Budget-Friendly for Beginners: Marangu

  • Moderate Hikers: Machame or Lemosho

  • Experienced Climbers: Umbwe

Route Highlights
Machame Route (The Whiskey Route)

The Machame Route is a favorite among climbers for its scenic beauty and higher success rate. It starts in lush rainforest and transitions into open moorlands, the dramatic Shira Plateau, and finally the summit ridge.

  • Duration: 6 or 7 days

  • PRO: Affordable, scenic, and excellent acclimatization

  • CON: Can be crowded during peak seasons

Marangu Route (The Coca-Cola Route)

Known as the only route with hut accommodations, Marangu is ideal for budget travelers or those seeking simplicity. However, the fast ascent can be challenging for acclimatization.

  • Duration: 5 or 6 days

  • PRO: Cost-effective and includes sleeping huts

  • CON: Less privacy, lower summit success rate

Lemosho Route

For those who seek a quieter, more immersive experience, the Lemosho Route offers dramatic vistas and excellent acclimatization time. It’s remote, unspoiled, and ideal for photographers and nature lovers.

  • Duration: 7 or 8 days

  • PRO: High success rate, breathtaking scenery

  • CON: More expensive due to extended trail and extra transport

When to Climb Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro can be climbed year-round, but the best times are during the dry seasons:

  • December to March – Warmer, clearer skies, less snow

  • June to October – Cooler, drier weather, but busier trails

  • Rainy Seasons (April–May & November) – Fewer climbers, but slippery trails and lower visibility

Preparing for the Climb

Climbing Kilimanjaro demands physical and mental preparation. You’ll hike 6–7 hours a day on average, so build stamina with regular hikes and cardio in the months leading up to your trip. Yoga and breathwork are also great for helping you adjust to high-altitude conditions.

Climbing Kilimanjaro Costs

Costs vary based on the route, duration, and accommodation preferences. At Maridadi Travel, we customize your itinerary to fit your budget—whether you’re traveling light or seeking a luxurious trek.

Additional Costs to Consider:

  • Quality hiking gear (boots, poles, jackets, etc.)
